Using new technological advances, a number of assistive communication devices may aid the deaf and hard of hearing people (DHHP) during various forms of disasters (e.g. fires, floods, tornados, burglaries, national security threat, etc.). When DHHP are living either individually or amongst their peers, it is extremely important to receive warnings when incidents occur. With the inability to properly hear alarm sounds, timely evacuation and other safety procedures may not be completed in time. With emerging network and device technologies, a solution is provided for reliable delivery and reception of warning messages with the development of a new device that will be resilient during various forms of disasters. In this project, an Assistive Communication Device for the DHHP is proposed in the event of emergency evacuations. This acts as a guide to provide appropriate security and protection for impaired people during disasters.
